Nursing Facility Definitions:

January 17, 2007

Nursing Facilities/Homes:
Facilities that provide skilled nursing, therapy, and personal care services to individuals who do not require hospital care.

Intermediate Care Facilities for the Mentally Retarded (ICF/MR)
:
Facilities for people with mental retardation or related conditions that require active treatment, nursing and personal care services.

Swing Bed Facility:
A Swing Bed facility is a skilled nursing facility located in a rural hospital. 

The Following Are Not Licensed As Nursing Homes

  • Retirement Communities
  • Boarding Homes
  • Assisted Living Facilities
They cannot provide skilled nursing services and are not reimbursed by the Medicaid program.
