  Optional Coverage For Women And Infants (OCWI)

 

Overview

The Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1986 (OBRA 86) gave states the option to provide Medicaid coverage to pregnant women with low income.

Basic Eligibility Requirements


    The woman must meet non-financial requirements:

    • State Residence
    • Citizenship
    • Social Security Number
    • Assignment of Rights to Medical Support


  • Have countable resources at or below $30,000 per Budget Group.


  • The income limit is 185% of the federal poverty level, currently $3,446 per month for a family of four (4).


  • The woman must be pregnant, and the pregnancy, including the expected date of delivery, must be medically verified. Pregnancy includes the 60-day postpartum period. The 60 days begin on the date of delivery or termination of the pregnancy.


Benefits



Individuals who qualify for OCWI are eligible for the full range of Medicaid covered services.


Get an Application


Applications may be obtained from the Department of Health and Human Services or from out-stationed locations such as the County Health Departments, federally qualified rural health centers, most hospitals and the county Department of Social Services. Applications for Medicaid may be filed in person or by mail.
