Deputy Director for Long Term Care

Pete Liggett, Ph.D., licensed psychologist, serves as the Deputy Director of Long Term Care and Behavioral Health for the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. His focus is guiding long term care and behavioral health policies as SCDHHS transforms these critical services and explores ways to better integrate long term care and behavioral health with primary care services. He joined SCDHHS in August 2012 as Director of Behavioral Health. Liggett has worked as a provider for over 20 years in outpatient clinics, community mental health, college mental health, corrections, group homes, and in private practice. Prior to coming to SCDHHS, he served as the Associate Director of the Counseling & Human Development Center at the University of South Carolina. Liggett was the Director of Child and Adolescent Services for the Columbia Area Mental Health Center from 1994 through 2001 and served as the chair of SCDMH's statewide CAF Council. He also worked part-time at the Marshall Street Crisis Stabilization Unit, a 16-bed crisis program for adults in crisis with a variety of behavioral health concerns. While primarily in an administrative role now, Liggett maintains a small practice in the Columbia area working with adolescents and adults.
