Revised Administrative Day Policy

Effective for claims with discharge dates on or after November 1, 2011, the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) has revised the policy for patients eligible for Administrative Days. This revision removes all references to the 50-mile limit for Nursing Home placements. The revised policy will read:

Medicaid coverage terminates once a nursing home bed becomes available within the South Carolina service area.  Should the patient or family refuse to accept the bed, the patient is then responsible for charges incurred for any remaining days.

This revised change will be located in the most current version of the Hospital Services Provider Manual, Section 2, Special Coverage Issues, Administrative Days, which can be located on the SCDHHS website at http://www.scdhhs.gov/internet/pdf/manuals/Hospital/SECTION%202.pdf.
