Proposed Action Regarding Preventative Services

PUBLIC NOTICE:
SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES

The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS), pursuant to the requirement of 42 CFR 447.205, gives notice of the following proposed action regarding Preventative Services.

Effective on or after September 1, 2014, SCDHHS proposes to update its Preventative Services policy. SCDHHS considers preventive health to be an important component of health care and to improving health outcomes. SCDHHS has developed its preventive health care policy in accordance with recommendations made by the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). The screening guideline serves as recommendations for individuals at normal risk. Providers should make health management decisions about which preventive services are most appropriate for Medicaid beneficiaries based on best practice. Additions to the revised policy include diabetes screening, health and behavioral assessments, cholesterol abnormalities screening, and HIV screening. SCDHHS proposes this change will have an estimated fiscal impact of $2 million total dollars. Reimbursement will be based on the physician fee schedule. Beneficiaries will receive these services with no cost sharing or co-pays assigned.

Copies of this notice are available at each County Department of Health and Human Services office and at www.scdhhs.gov for public review. Additional information concerning the proposed action is available upon request at the address cited below.
