Proposed Eating Disorders Public Notice


The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) gives notice of the following proposed actions regarding the eating disorder treatment services under Title XIX of the Social Security Act Medical Assistance Program (Medicaid).

Effective on or after July 1, 2015, SCDHHS proposes to amend the South Carolina Title XIX State Plan to include eating disorder treatment as a covered service. This service is intended to provide medically necessary treatment to individuals with a confirmed diagnosis of a DSM V eating disorder. These services are available to medically eligible beneficiaries ages 0-21. Eating Disorder Services must be provided consistent with approved AMA CPT and HCSPCs code sets.

SCDHHS projects that based upon the proposed actions, annual total Medicaid expenditures will increase by approximately $420,000.
