Transition Guidelines for Autism Services

As previously announced in a March 31, 2017, provider bulletin, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) treatment services will be added to the South Carolina Medicaid State Plan effective for dates of service on or after July 1, 2017.

The ASD policy manual, published May 4, 2017, contains guidance on utilizing the Phoenix system for fee- for-service (FFS) beneficiaries. Because Phoenix functionality will be implemented in phases, the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) created a transition plan to guide provider activities during this period. This transition plan also includes guidance on beneficiaries who are covered by managed care organizations (MCOs) as ASD will be added to the coordinated care benefit July 1, 2017.

The ASD transition guidelines are available on the ASD website, https://msp.scdhhs.gov/autism/.

Should you have any questions regarding this bulletin, please contact the SCDHHS Division of Behavioral Health at (803) 898-2565.

Thank you for your continued support of the South Carolina Healthy Connections Medicaid program.
