SMS/MMS Text Messaging Terms of Service

By providing your cell number as part of your enrollment, you are agreeing to receive text messages from Healthy Connections Medicaid. You are also agreeing to the following terms and conditions.

You are telling South Carolina Healthy Connections Medicaid: 

  • You are the wireless service plan subscriber or authorized user of the cell phone number you entered to get text messages or   
  • You are telling us the plan subscriber or authorized user of the cell phone number gave you permission to enroll that number.  

You agree to tell Healthy Connections Medicaid if your cell phone number changes.  

You give Healthy Connections Medicaid consent to send text messages to the enrolled cell phone number. This will go through your wireless phone carrier, unless and until you end permission per these terms and conditions.  

By giving this permission to Healthy Connections Medicaid, you are asking to get text messages. These text messages will tell you action is needed to process your case. They may also let you know there is a new letter in your online Medicaid account. Text messages will not be used to sell you products. You do not have to agree to get text messages to receive any product or service from Healthy Connections Medicaid. You will not get marketing messages. Text messages will not ask you to respond with any personal or medical information. 

Text messages may tell your application status. They may also give information on annual reviews or changes in your Medicaid status.  

The Healthy Connections Medicaid short code is 21256. You can opt-in to get text message updates about your Medicaid coverage. To do this, text CONNeCT to 21256.

By opting into this service, you consent to receive mobile text alerts using an automatic telephone dialing system. Consent to receive text messages is not required as a condition of purchasing any goods or services.

Healthy Connections Medicaid will send a text message when we have an update.  

To Stop Getting Text Messages

You can stop getting text messages at any time. Just use one of the options below:

  • You can access your secure online account at apply.scdhhs.gov.
  • Call (888) 549-0820. Tell us you want to stop getting text messages. You can call Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Reply STOP from your cell phone when you get a text. Text STOP to 21256 to stop receiving communication about your Healthy Connections Medicaid coverage from the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS). There can be no other words, spaces or characters before or after the word STOP.  

When you request to stop getting texts, you will get one last text message from Healthy Connections Medicaid. It will say you will stop getting text messages. If you change your message options, it may take up to 48 hours for it to take effect. During this 48-hour period, you might get texts from Healthy Connections Medicaid. You agree to receive texts until you cancel the service.

If you have questions or need help, call 888-549-0820. The TTY is: (888) 842-3620). The member contact center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, text HELP to 21256. You can also email info@scdhhs.gov. You will get a text with contact information. 

Message and data rates may apply. 

Message Frequency

The number of messages you get will vary. Healthy Connections Medicaid will send a text message when there is a new letter to view in your online account. When you opt in for text messages from Healthy Connections Medicaid, you agree to get texts when there is a letter.

Supported Carriers List

Text messages from Healthy Connections Medicaid may not be offered on all carriers. More carriers may be added at any time.

Changes in Terms

Healthy Connections Medicaid reserves the right to change these terms and conditions. They can also cancel the text messages service at any time. By using and accepting text messages from Healthy Connections Medicaid after we make changes to the terms and conditions, you are accepting the terms and conditions with those changes. Please check the terms and conditions regularly. 

Security

Text messages between you and us (or others on behalf of us) will not be encrypted. This means they will be unsecured. Others could read them. It is important you keep your cell phone protected. You should protect your cell phone with a passcode. You understand that we are not responsible for the release of personal information once you agree to receive text messages. 

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent allowed by applicable law, you agree that Healthy Connections Medicaid or parties acting on behalf of Healthy Connections Medicaid are not liable for any direct, indirect, consequential, special, incidental, punitive or any other damages. You agree even if Healthy Connections Medicaid has been told of possible damage or loss arising or resulting from or in any way relating to your use of Healthy Connections Medicaid text messages. The wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Healthy Connections Medicaid and its representatives are not liable for the acts or omissions of third parties, including but not limited to delays in the transmission of messages.

Indemnity

To the maximum extent allowed by applicable law, you agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless Healthy Connections Medicaid, its directors, officers, employees, servants, agents, representatives, independent contractors and affiliates from and against any and all claims, damages, liabilities, actions, causes of action, costs, expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, judgments or penalties of any kind or nature arising from using or getting text messages.
