Update to Durable Medical Equipment Provider Manual

MB#
21-008

Effective Oct. 1, 2021, the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) will amend the definition of durable medical equipment (DME) found in the DME Provider Manual. This revision replaces the “suitable for use in home” language in the definition with “suitable for use in any setting in which normal life activities take place.” This new definition of DME is consistent with the language in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) at 42 CFR §440.70(b)(3).

Changes to the DME definition will be made in SCDHHS’ DME Provider Manual on Oct. 1, 2021.
