Updates to Behavioral Health Policies

MB#
21-002

The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) is announcing updates to two behavioral health policies. The updates are described below along with their effective dates.  SCDHHS is also announcing a new supplement to three behavioral health provider manuals.

Progress Summaries for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

Effective April 1, 2021, progress summaries can span the entire previous authorized treatment period (up to 180 days) on one report as part of the continued stay prior authorization requests. This policy update will eliminate the requirement for South Carolina Healthy Connections Medicaid-enrolled ABA providers to submit the previous two 90-day progress summaries and further align SCDHHS’ policy with industry standards. The updated policy on progress summaries will be available in SCDHHS’ Autism Spectrum Disorder Services provider manual, which is available on SCDHHS’ website.

Medicaid Targeted Case Management (MTCM)

Beginning Sept.  1, 2021, SCDHHS will require that the MTCM assessment include printed name, title, date and signature of the person conducting the assessment to validate the need or lack of need for MTCM services.

DC: 0-5Crosswalk

SCDHHS is adding a crosswalk for providers who use the DC:0–5™ manual in their practice to assist them in determining what diagnose(s) to utilize when submitting claims to South Carolina Healthy Connections Medicaid.

The DC:0–5™ crosswalk will be published as a supplement to the following provider manuals:

Please direct any questions or concerns regarding this bulletin to the SCDHHS Office of Behavioral Health at (803) 898-2565.

Thank you for your continued support of the South Carolina Healthy Connections Medicaid Program.
