Updates for Dental Services Rendered in an Ambulatory Surgical Center

MB#
26-043

Effective Dec. 1, 2026, the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services will update the reimbursement and billing guidelines for services rendered in ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs).

ASC providers must use procedure code G0330 for reimbursement of operating room–related facility services when billing for dental rehabilitation performed under anesthesia. Only one dental event billed with code G0330 will be allowed per date of service, per patient, regardless of the dental services performed or the time spent during the dental event.

Professional services of a physician or dentist, which include dental services, pre-operative and post-operative services and administration of anesthesia, are not billable by the ASC and are paid separate from the facility rate to the appropriate South Carolina Healthy Connections Medicaid program participating provider.

ASC providers are not required to obtain prior authorization for dental services delivered in their facility. However, ASC providers must submit claims with a copy of the approved authorization issued to the dental provider by SCDHHS’ dental administrative services organization. Claims missing this supporting documentation will be rejected.
