The Medically Complex Children (MCC) waiver serves children who meet hospital level of care (LOC), and have chronic physical/health conditions expected to last longer than 12 months. The participants must also meet the State-defined medical eligibility criteria which evaluates the child's dependency on medications, medical supervision, hospitalizations, skilled nursing services, therapies and medical specialists.
The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) intends to file a waiver amendment with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to add self-directed attendant care as a service to the waiver. SCDHHS held public webinars on this change in June 2024. The presentation and a recording are available below.
Current information regarding the MCC waiver can be found below.
Information published prior to January 2022 regarding the MCC waiver is located on the Waiver Archive page. For information regarding all Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waiver programs, visit the Waiver Management page.
