Information for Medicaid Members and Applicants
Renew your Medicaid coverage! Annual reviews starting now.
Medicaid members must complete an annual review form each year to check if they are still eligible for Medicaid coverage. During the COVID-19 public health emergency, Medicaid had special rules. During this time, Medicaid members kept their coverage. However, the federal government has told states to restart annual reviews. Effective, April 1, 2023, South Carolina resumed the annual eligibility review process. While members will begin receiving notices and review forms in April 2023, the agency thinks it will take 12 months to complete the process. This means some members will not receive their notice or annual review form until March 2024. You must complete and return it by the deadline in the letter. If you don't return it by the deadline, we will send you a notice to let you know the date your Medicaid benefits will end.

Autism Spectrum Disorder Services
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges.
SCDHHS covers all medically necessary care for children with autism through age 21 as part of the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment (EPSDT) benefit.

BabyNet
BabyNet is South Carolina’s interagency early intervention system for infants and toddlers under three years of age with developmental delays, or who have conditions associated with developmental delays.
BabyNet matches the special needs of infants and toddlers who have developmental delays with the professional resources available within the community. BabyNet will evaluate the child at no cost to determine if they may be eligible for services. Services are provided in everyday routines, activities and places relevant to the life of the family.

Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic & Treatment
This Medicaid benefit covers checkups and health care services for children from birth until age 21 to detect and treat health problems. EPSDT checkups are free for all children and youth who have Healthy Connections Medicaid.
Often referred to as well-child visits, EPSDT finds children with actual or potential health problems and screens, diagnoses and treats the problems before they become permanent, lifelong disabilities.
- Civil Rights & Privacy
The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services' (SCDHHS) Office of Civil Rights & Privacy works to ensure all individuals have equal access to the Medicaid program without discrimination or barriers and that all personal information is safeguarded in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Estate Recovery
In August of 1993, Congress passed a law that requires states to recover amounts that Medicaid has paid for certain recipients. In South Carolina, the Estate Recovery Program went into effect on July 1, 1994. The state will recover amounts paid by Medicaid for services received July 1, 1994, or later.
- Voter Registration Assistance
In addition to offering Medicaid services, South Carolina Healthy Connections can also help you register to vote or update your voter registration information. This is a free service, and your participation will not have any impact on your Medicaid eligibility or the quality of service you receive from SCDHHS.
- Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
Eating nutritious foods is important to every family's health. The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program provides healthy foods that help fuel your child's growth and development and helps improve pregnancy and birth outcomes. WIC also provides health education and breastfeeding support. Services are available for pregnant women, mothers, infants and children up to age five. All caregivers are encouraged to access WIC.
